Cockpit helicopter - Instruments panel.

Over 80 years of history

It was in 1941, at the start of World War Two, when founder Dr Robert Lee Anderson developed the world’s first approved synthetic lubricant for aircraft instruments and machine guns. With mineral oil in short supply during this period the development of synthetic solutions was revolutionary, enabling military planes to fly long distances without suffering catastrophic engine over-heating. These synthetic lubricants were an essential solution during this period for use in the military.

At the start in 1941, Dr Robert Lee Anderson founded the company Lehigh Chemical Co, which he later changed to ANDEROL.

It was in the 1950’s that diversification into new markets began in earnest, and ANDEROL began developing synthetic lubricant solutions for the industrial market that far outshone the competition in terms of their quality and performance.

Within the ANDEROL Specialty Lubricants portfolio, industrial (focus on air compressors, vacuum pums and food processing industry) lubricants were branded under ANDEROL, and Aerospace and defense product lines were branded to ROYCO.

When LANXESS acquired Chemtura in 2017, Royco® became a brand within LANXESS' Lubricant Additives Business.
