Science Based Targets initiative reconfirms LANXESS climate targets

LANXESS's climate targets are in line with the 1.5°C pathway of the Paris Climate Agreement. This was recently reconfirmed by the renowned Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The SBTi target validation team has determined that LANXESS's near-term emissions targets (up to 2030) for production and energy procurement (Scope 1 and 2) are in line with the 1.5°C pathway. According to SBTi, the long-term targets (up to 2050) for the entire value chain (Scope 1, 2 and 3) are also in line with the 1.5°C reduction pathway. LANXESS therefore meets the most ambitious target currently being examined by SBTi.

Climate protection based on the latest scientific findings

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global initiative to help companies set science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

The SBTi provides a framework and guidance for companies to set targets that are consistent with the latest climate science, including the 1.5°C pathway. Companies can have their targets independently verified and validated by SBTi. The SBTi emphasizes the urgency of pursuing the 1.5°C target and calls on organizations and companies to show commitment.
